This is by far THE best ever that i have seen coming from the guys themselves, *N Sync. This book brings with itself the real lifes of these VERY talented guys. You are going to be SO entertain with its awesome pictures, that you won't even bother with the reading. You should read it, ofcourse, because that is the reason why they made this book. They want to let people know who they are and to also show the world that they are here to say. They are the best group ever. They don't have their 15 minutes of fame and leave. This is, by far, the best book that i have ever read that is actually written by them! To me , they are the best boy band out there and are totally different from the backstreet boys. Anyway, the book has tons of great pictures of the entire group. Most of them are super cute too. If you are a fan of Lance, JC, Joey or Chris you will absolutely love this book because there are an equal amount of pictures of each member and not all pictures of Justin. There isn't a whole lot of information on the group though, so if you are looking for a book on that, this really isn't the book for you. Although, if you want tons of great color pictures, cool quotes from all of the guys, and behind the scenes pictures of their awesome, must see, concerts, then this is a must have book to add to your collections. I am a big "N Sync fan and i support them all the way. I think they are a great group of guys and they totally deserve the loving support from all you 'N Sync fans out there. Stay 'N SYNC!

Yes, I know this book is a little pricy but I think that it is worth every dime that I spent. Sure, there isn't THAT much info on the guys themselves but there are a lot of quotes and tons and tons of pix! The book itself is mini-poster size so all of the pictures are pretty big. Most are from concerts of the tour last year and, let me tell you, these guys are adorable :o) I especially liked the last pic which was of Lance, asleep. Anyway, I recommend this book for any *NSYNC fan!

I recommend this book for all ages. Parents will find it a pleasure to read to their younger children. Children will love this book and find in its covers a picture of love of God, country, and family framed in a loyal and gentle heart that is Jeannie's. Thank you Evelyn Horan for raising the standard of contemporary children's books. It is encouraging to see a modern day author continue the tradition of quality American Children's literature while being respectful of America's foundational Christian heritage. Her wholesome writing would make a good introduction to historical fiction for young people.

No book has ever captivated me the way this one has. Cynthia Acree has written a fascinating book that highlights her experiences as a military wife when her husband, Marine Corps Colonel Cliff Acree was shot down in the early stages of the Gulf War and held prisoner of war by Saddam Hussein. Cliff was held captive for 48 days, and overcame brutal beatings, starvation, and torturous interrogations; he nearly died on more than one occasion.

Cindy was back home in America fighting her own battle. First of all, she never even knew if Cliff was alive until he was paraded by the Iraqi's, beaten, dazed and starved, in front of news cameras that broadcast their footage back to the rest of the world via CNN. Cindy rallied for the support of her fellow Americans to fight for the release of her husband and the other POW's. Both Cindy and Cliff tell the story in The Gulf Between Us-- it is one that stirs great emotion, and makes us proud to be an American!

READ THIS BOOK! Cliff and Cindy's story is a gripping one; it is full of the events that can only be called "heroism under fire". Their situations could not have been seemingly more opposite, yet their approach was EXACTLY the same -- love and duty and honor in all things. It must have been hard to remember when was Cliff was being tortured that his main purpose was to survive and give no information. It must have been excrutiating for Cindy, when the cameras and reporters were crawling over each other and her for a story, that her main purpose was to get her husband and the other POWs home. And how does one deal with the pressing worship of a grateful nation, hungry for heroes? The tales are told in riveting fashion, as the reader is pulled along through every detail of their stories, as if standing in the room as the events unfold. The descriptions are vivid and captivating. You won't be able to put this book down!

Cliff and Cindy weathered "their dessert storm", and survived to tell their story because the seeds of their success were ALWAYS there! They BOTH knew that much might be expected of them; the DIFFERENCE is, they were WILLING -- not to be heroes (though heroes they TRULY are), but to do WHATEVER it took to accomplish the mission before them! Such a thing cannot just be "taught"... it must be LEARNED and LIVED!

Cliff and Cindy ARE heroes, but this book is not JUST about Dessert Storm. Culinary Artistry is a book some may passover or leaf through in the bookstore for the likes of the Joy of Cooking or a Martha Stewart volume 20 cookbook. But look closer, the charts and the what-goes-well-with-what sections of this book alone are worth the price if only to give the food lover an inspired moment to create a dish with ingredients he or she may love. If you find yourself saying, "gee, I'd really love to have salmon tonight but I don't know what to put with it", pick up this book, find Salmon and refer to the extensive list of items that the interviewed chefs prefer with it and an idea is born. After that, all it takes is a little know-how in the kitchen and you've created your very own gourmet meal. If you choose to read from front to back you'll also discover page after page of insightful information from some of the nation's top chef's. Take your time, it's not a novel but it can be read like one and used as reference even after you've reached the last page. For the money, this is a book that will stay on your shelf for years to come and still manage to provide a new idea each time. So put down the Martha Stewart Haloween cookie issue and give Culinary Artistry a try, "It's a good thing". Sorry about that last one, she's infectious.

I am a self-taught home cook who enjoys the activities of the kitchen. I entered the cooking arena one of the standard ways, using cookbooks. Collections of recipes familarized me with the techniques and ethnic cooking styles. Gradually, my cookbook collection included reference books that provided some of the theory behind tastes and preparation styles. Gold's 1-2-3 series, Peterson's Sauces, and others introduced to me the philosophies that allow a cook to go beyond mimicking a recipe to improvising and even creating a dish. Culinary Artistry is perhaps the best available reference for learning about the traditions of combining flavors and food groups.

It contains vital information that I suspect is taught only in some of the culinary schools. It provides valuable charts of information about cooking and menu planning. The book contains sections on Menus, including a seasonality chart and a chart explaining successful seasoning combinations. There is a section for Composing Flavors, the highlight of which is a chart showing successful food contrasts. Another section involves Composing A Dish. Here there is a chart showing great food matches and one showing seasoning matches. The Composing A Menu section offers a chart showing frequent accompaniments to meats and paragraphs presenting theories about Hors Douevres, Cheeses, and Desserts. This was a sparse and incomplete passage in an otherwise comprehensive book. Finally, there was a fun section addressing the Evolution of Chef's Styles. Here the authors provide sample menus comparing chef's offerings from earlier decades to their present day productions.

The volume offers multiple anecdotes, quotes, and side bars concerning the views of popular chefs. Various recipes are interspersed to illustrate the principles. My one criticism was that the book was laid out like a college textbook. Photos, captions, quotes, highlighted lines, sidebars, and other areas compete on the same page, magazine style. The book serves as reference, frequently glanced at rather than read straight through as a narrative.

"True Selves" is the first book to provide the reader with some sense of what it is to be transsexual. The book is written by Mildred Brown and Chloe Rounsley. Mrs. Brown is a therapist who has worked closely with transsexuals for many years. Her compassion and understanding of the problems and suffering of this small group of individuals fills a gap that has existed for many years. Mrs. Browm starts at the beginning and explains this little known condition for the reader. She starts by defining terms that are often times misused by a "ratings hungry" media. She explains the medical, socialogical and psychological foundations. She also povides some insights into the suffering and pain that transsexuals are faced with each and every day. Mrs. Brown accomplishes this all in a down to earth style that both the lay person and professional will appreciate. THe book provides resources for transsexuals and professional alike. As a transsexual myself I found the book to be quite heartwarming as I discovered it was about me! Previous titles about transsexualism such as "The Uninvited Dilema" by M.A. Stewart had been the text that many professionals referred their clients to. With the release of this book I believe that they will soon use this as a means of opening the eyes of the friends and familes of their transsexual clients.

I found this book to be an excellent overview of Transsexualism dealing with all aspects of gender change and the issues involved. I find the book a good reference for everyone. From the person identifying as a transsexual, to helping professionals, friends and family, to those just interested in the subject matter. I've read quite a few books on the subject matter and rate this the top one yet. And yes, I am a post-operative transsexual woman.

I have bought a copy for my parents, my friends and am now saving up to buy more copies. True Selves is the most sympathetic approach to transsexuality I have ever encountered. Without being accademic, this book gets to the grass roots of what it means to be Gender Dysphoric, while offering possitive and practical means by which friends and relatives of transsexuals might begin to understand and empathize with the issues facing them.

This is the first book about Transsexuals that has not made me cringe. Mildred has successfully separated gender from sexuality and portrays the feelings and desires of transsexuals in a genuine and honourable light.

Clara Bow's incredible journey through life --- the child abuse, boundless energy, ambition, heartbreak and ostracism ---- is enough for any five soap operas. But it all happened to her, and David Stenn's flawless writing brings it all to life. Even hardcore film mavens who THINK they know Bow's story need to read this book. Bow was a highly complex, yet simple, person used by Hollywood's machine then cast aside when she seemed ill suited for talkies. Stenn iss particularly good at covering Bow's many valleys and how the tinsel town users almost zeroed-in on her. Unlike any bio I've ever read, RUNNING WILD truly blends outstanding research, often minute facts (there are many additions in this updated version), and a deep feeling for the Bow the public never saw. I HIGHLY recommend this book to teenagers! My 16 year old was fascinated with Bow's story, one which could have happened yesterday. Congratulations to David Stenn for a magnificent bio that no film buff --- or teenager --- should miss.

When Clara Bow died in 1965, her death generated little excitement other than a faint nod to an era that had long passed. Modern audiences did not know who this woman was and had little interest in her career.
This book has revived public interest in her as an actress and as a person who battled a lot of demons and was never completely successful in freeing herself of those demons.
I knew very little about Clara Bow when I started reading this book except snippets of lurid gossip regarding her private life. Through his exhaustive research, David Stenn has managed to separate fact from fiction and present the story of an interesting woman whose life was a lot stranger than any of the characters she portrayed on the screen. I just couldn't put this book down!
Stenn's writing style managed to keep me interested in the subject. Of course, it can be said that Stenn seems to write exclusively about very interesting people. Whatever the case, I found myself feeling a lot of sympathy for a lady who was not emotionally equipped to handle life. I also found myself amazed that this woman was able to succeed as fabulously as she did given all the problems she faced.
I think most readers will find this a compelling read. It is one of the best biographies I've ever read.

Here is a pretty great book. Jeez, what a book. And what a subject, what a person. RUNNIN' WILD is a readable readable book about a great crazy person, a person who came of age in an age when there were no other people like her to come of age alongside her. She is the modern woman, before there were modern women, suffering from the wild range of modern problems, before there were modern problems, and, hence, before there were modern solutions. David Stenn has written a stylish, memorable and heartfelt-feeling book about Miss Clara Bow, of Brooklyn. He has made a dead person alive with his book, and isn't that the great thing that biography can do? I read this book cover to cover and then back again.

The Counselors is truly a book to educate and inspire. As a woman who came after the Women's Liberation Movement, I have a tendency to forget about the struggles that the women before me endured. The Counselors brought the struggles of 18 amazing women into sharp relief.

It was a revelation to discover that Lynn Hecht Schafran concealed her pregnancy for nine months, took a two-week vacation, and came back to work, suddenly a parent, since employees at her business were not allowed to be pregnant. Can you believe that? I couldn't. The Counselors is inspirational and a great motivator.

My favorite part of the book is the first-person anecdotes that author Elizabeth Vrato includes to begin each woman's story. Her personal stories are easy to relate to and demonstrate her increasing awareness of the struggles that women have endured and continue to experience in the working world. Ultimately, The Counselors is about triumphing over obstacles; there are myriad bits of advice sprinkled throughout.

For someone who has lacked strong female role models, I feel so fortunate to be able to hear these women talk about family, career, the glass ceiling, important legislation for the rights of women, and the importance of strong bonds amongst women. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for some inspiration or history on the women's movement. I feel so grateful to these women and author Elizabeth Vrato for sharing their stories with the world.

This book does a great job at what it sets out to do. Its purpose is presented in its introduction: (1) to talk with a group of women who it may be difficult to gain access to for a conversation, and to ask them what they would like to say to others about their journeys during the social transformation in America over the last 30-40 years and (2)to get those stories out there to more people than those women could ever meet with during the course of their busy days changing the world. That's it.

It's not meant to criticize them one little bit. It doesn't. And it's not meant to be new and definitive in the fields of politics and women's issues. It's not.

Having said that, many people will learn a lot, because not that many people are really experts in the fields of politics and women's studies. And readers will take away practical advice they can apply in their own lives, passed along from those who have traveled the path before them--the way you get from having conversations with mentors. Some of the women have "name recognition," some don't. But they all have a warmth and a willingness to share that can help those who think they could benefit from conversations with wiser elders or with role models.

The Counselors doesn't fit the mold of a lot of other books, and it's a book we've been needing. It fills a niche, providing inspiration from numerous voices of women (including women of color), which is different from our tradition of seeing men in positions of power and responsibility and hearing only (or primarily) the voices of men to inspire us. But women have been inspired by the voices of men, and now men can be inspired by the voices of women. The Counselors broadens American folklore--

Right Brained Children in a Left Brained World is an excellent book. I've read so many books since my child was diagnosed as ADHD six years ago, and this is by far the best. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to convince our local educators to read it. It could help so many children that are currently struggling in school. Our son is now 12 years old, is not on any medications, is going to a Montessori school, and doing just fine. After reading this book, I've found it so much easier to understand him. I wonder if Jeffrey Freed does any public speaking on this subject. I sure hope he does. We need to get this information out. I will be taking this book with me to our local public school meeting on Curriculum and hoping to get the teachers to pick up a copy and read it over the summer!

Every parent who has a child branded ADD or LD or a child who learns visually rather than auditorily should read this book and give copies to all their child's teachers! This is without a doubt the most enlightening and useful book I have found in 8 years of looking for answers for why my smart,artistic child had so many problems in school.If words present problems for your child, this book is for you. Understanding what your right-brained child is suffering in a left-brained institution (school) will help you and your child overcome the frustrations of learning to read, to write, to do math. Practical, easy tutoring and study strategies use your child's strengths to compensate for weaknesses.This should be required reading for all the teachers and school administrators who undervalue, and fail to understand these wonderful minds!!!

This book is a God send. When I started to read this book I couldn't stop. I finished it and immediately went out and bought the only two copies I could find to give to my son's teachers. I felt as though I was reading about my child in this book. I could relate to everything Mr. Freed was talking about. I tried the examples in the book and when my child spelled words I never heard of, both forward and backward, without skipping a beat, I cried. It still amazes me. After 6 long years of struggling with schools, homework, and conferences with school officials...a solution.

Thank you for revealing what these children truly are...GIFTED. Mr. Freed and Laurie Parsons. You have given me hope. For that I can't thank you enough.

This is a memoir-style story about how two animal loving people, a mutt and cat loving writer (Jeanne Marie Laskas) and a poodle packing physchologist, (her long time male friend) that begin as friends in the city and end up sharing their lives with each other and the pets they cherish on a 50 acre farm. This is both funny and entertaining, mixed with the realities of life when it comes to losing beloved pets and family. For anyone that thinks animals are people too, you will enjoy this fast-paced and humorous adventure!

After completing spectacular literature, I have a tendency to really sputter. Over my Christmas break, I read a number of good books including Dennis Lehane's Mystic River and Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer. I thoroughly enjoyed both, but really needed a change of pace that did not come readily. Finally, in frustration I chose a recent read and plugged it into Listmania hoping for some sort of recommendation; SHAZAM!! I hit on Fifty Acres and a Poodle. The memoir deals with Ms. Laska's purchase, along with boyfriend Alex, of a Pennsylvania farm. A cast of humorous and lovable characters makes for a wonderful, moving piece of literature that everyone should read. Whether it is for the whole farm-purchasing adventure, journey of self discovery, love of animals, wonderful sense of humor, etc., I guarantee you will thoroughly enjoy this book. I fell in love with Bob the basketball-playing cat, Marley who sounds so much like my family's dearly-departed Airedale, Chumley, and leading lady Betty. The purchase of Sassy and Cricket, the "Joe Crowleys," the blaze orange hats, the wedding mums, etc. I could wax poetic forever. Please do yourself a tremendous favor and read this moving, funny memoir.
In closing, please Ms. Laskas, continue your tale! I want more.

I loved this book. Written with warmth and humor, it is the most original and enjoyable material I've read in months. Jeanne Marie Laskas doesn't have to try too hard to be funny. She just is. There are certain repetitions regarding her inner princess, her husband's all pants half-off joke, stupid sheep, etc. and the roo, roo, roo and woof, woof, woof that give voices to her beloved dogs, Betty and Marley, that make the story come alive. She is also not afraid to show her serious side and reveal her vulnerabilities. Mostly Laskas had me laughing, but sadly, there are elements that aren't so funny. Believing at first this would be a "fish out of water story"-city couple tries to make dream of farm living a reality and everything goes wrong-it is quite the contrary. This is a love story-love between a couple, their extended family (family members, city friends, country friends, their fifty acres of farmland, and lots and lots of animals. Bravo!!! I highly, highly recommend.

It's hard to believe that he survived to sing another day. The other reviews don't give adequate credit to Robin, his current wife. Chuck gives her and the others who stood by him a great deal of credit for his eventual recovery. I had trouble putting the book down. Chuck went from being a phenomenal success to a miserable human being who neglected his family and friends. This book tells it all and in the end inspires with the success story of recovery. If you were or are a Three Dog Night fan or if you want to read a great human interest story, don't miss this book.

I have been a fan of 3DN (especially Chuck) since 1969, saw them in concert many, many times over the years. I wondered what happened to Chuck when I saw the other two at an outdoor concert in Springfield IL in the mid-80's. Didn't realize what he was going through. Being a Gemini (also June 8) and a recovering alcoholic I found it quite amazing that we've gone through alot of the same things....being abandoned as a child, then as adult...you find your solace in something to deaden the pain. I understand. Thank you Chuck for sharing your life in such an honest, inspiring way....your story has helped me. I have "Am I Still in Your Heart?" it is beautiful and the answer to that question is "yes, Chuck you're still in my heart.....never really left. I thank God that your HP gave you your wonderful voice back. God bless you and your family. Oh by the way, I read the entire book in 2-1/2 days....and am going to read it again. Like the big blue books says, "We must be entirely honest with somebody if we expect to live or happily in this world."

I read this book in a matter of hours. I couldn't put it down! It had to be painful for him to re-live everything in this book, because most if it isn't pretty. It's a gut wrenching story, but has a happy ending. If you were a huge Three Dog Night fan as I was, there are moments where you will feel cheated by what drugs stole from you as well as Chuck. But, he's back, he's clean, he's happy, and God bless him - he's sounding as good as ever! The fact that he is still alive to write a book like this is truly a miracle. Read it - it's an inspiration.
